The New Apartment

Have you ever walked to the point where you thought your legs would fall off your body? Have you ever been so sore that your hips felt like rubber? Have your feet ever ached so bad that you walk with a gimp, and your shins shoot pains up your legs for hours after you sit down? Have you ever found an apartment in a big city in one day? I have now experienced all of these things.

We started the day with some lectures at The Philadelphia Center. At around 10:30 we left to go see our first apartment, a small 2-bedroom in Old Town. The apartment had a great roof deck but the rest was smelly, dirty, and left much to be desired. We immediately crossed it off the list, even though it was in a good neighborhood, because it was kind of pricey for the quality. The next house we saw was in Chinatown above an old fortune cookie factory. It was a cute apartment but the landlord limited the amount of people so that the rent would cost $600 a month. It wasn't $600 worth of cute. So we moved on, getting a little tired at this point, but motivated to see as many houses on the first day as possible. So we moved on, next seeing a great brownstone with hardwood floors next to the hip South Street. After that we saw a tiny little place removed from the city that was way over priced. A few creepy apartments later we stumbled back to the city center to look at The Cosmopolitan apartments. At first I wasn't so convinced, but the great lobby, friendly man working the check in desk in the lobby, and unbeatable location warmed me up to the place. The apartments were all different shapes and sizes, but we finally found one that suited us. It is on the corner of the building, so the two huge walls in the living room both have HUGE windows. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms for the four of us to share. The kitchen is modern, and the laundry facilities are stacked in a closet IN the apartment so we don't have to venture to a creepy basement. There is new carpeting, new appliances, and it is clean! And it is in the very middle of the city, two blocks away from Broad Street and a few blocks away from City Hall. Our huge windows look down on a small intersection with cafes, restaurants, and small shops. The minute you step outside the door you are in the hustle and bustle of the city. I love it!

Tomorrow the search begins for furniture!
